Famous figures from film, track and stage embrace the spirit of the 1920s in Berlin

Chris Lange, an award-winning creative executive and the owner of Creative Studio Berlin, has revealed the end result of a recent project for Merlin Entertainments in the company’s home city of Berlin.

Chris Lange and the Creative Studio Berlin team designed and produced Madame Tussauds latest zone, dedicated to the decade famous for producing the art deco style and prohibition in the US.

The new zone is the result of the remodelling of an existing display area, blending into the recently installed “Berlin 100” exhibition, taking guests on a brief trip back in time through the last century in the German capital. The investment features a number of immersive physical sets, with interactive details designed for visitors to discover.

Five famous faces

The recently opened area covers 300-square-meters and features five waxworks produced by location owner Merlin Entertainments.

Visitors can visit dance icon Josephine Baker in a glittering dance palace, or have a drink with German actress Marlene Dietrich in a speakeasy bar.

Film enthusiasts will appreciate a recreation of Liza Minelli in her role as Sally Bowles from Cabaret, and the opportunity to watch a nighttime performance of Berlin’s historic “Halensee Lunapark” featuring Charlie Chaplin.

The new area concludes with sports legend Jesse Owens, a US athlete who won four gold medals at the 1936 Olympic Games.

Efficient sourcing

Annette Stock-Updike was the executive show producer responsible for delivering the project.

She says: “We used local speciality companies to fabricate the elaborate sets, props and effects which made the process very efficient on top of supporting Berlin-based businesses. Especially replicating period decorations needs a tight sampling program to get the historic look right.”

Regional Director Midway Germany & Austria Marcel Kloos adds: “Chris and his team delved into the history of the Berlin’s Roaring Twenties and captured that unique feeling in the new part of the attraction. Our guests are completely immersed, entertained, and even educated.”

Earlier this year, Creative Studio Berlin announced that it is working on Manzherok All Season Resort, a forthcoming project in Russia’s Siberia region. In 2021 Lange, a themed entertainment veteran, spoke to blooloop about his career so far, and his goals for Creative Studio Berlin.
