Mad Systems Inc., the award-winning audiovisual and interactive system designer and integrator, is celebrating the opening of the refreshed Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum in Independence, Missouri, USA. Guests can now discover all-new exhibits, designed to tell the story of Harry S. Truman’s time as President of the United States and his administration’s accomplishments.

Within the newly renovated 14,000-square foot museum space, Mad Systems was able to integrate their QuickSilver® system and worked alongside Monadnock Media, who provided the interactive programming and design from Gallagher & Associates.

Guests can learn about America’s 33rd president with various artefacts and archives and multiple immersive theatres featuring pristine projection mapping and theatrical effects.

There are also plenty of audiovisual interactives focused on landmark moments in Truman’s presidency, with a highlight being the Red Scare-era Loyalty Program where guests can sit at a table with headphones and a touch screen and experience the fear-mongering tactics used during the 1950’s Red Scare period as their loyalty to America is questioned.

After several COVID-related closures, the museum is now fully open to guests 7 days a week.

A flexible solution

Mad Systems’ QuickSilver solution was a perfect fit for this installation due to the flexibility of its system. With the facility being a federal building, the team was not able to design a wifi-based solution. However, QuickSilver can function either as a wired or wireless system, so a wired system was implemented.

With QuickSilver, wired systems still provide flexibility and cost savings. Instead of having media servers in a control room and using expensive extenders, the servers are located within the exhibits allowing for only the audio and control signals to be taken back to the control room. The solution resulted in significant savings in the client’s infrastructure budget.

Speaking about the project, Maris Ensing, the founder of Mad Systems, says:

“The QuickSilver system is going from strength to strength. This installation shows how it is possible to reduce costs even if a wired solution is required. The flexibility of the system allows for different, non-traditional implementations.”

Last year, Mad Systems was awarded US Patent #11157548, which covers further details relating to the personalization of media delivery and interactive exhibits based on recognition systems. Mad Systems’ implementation of this solution is unique in that it can recognize individuals or groups of individuals, as well as determine what their preferences are. Those preferences are then delivered through the interactive media within a second, all without the need for an internet connection, guaranteeing privacy.
