Company has been awarded the fit-out contract for the £42 million refurbishment project

The Hub, the UK’s leading specialist fit-out contractor, has announced that it has been appointed as the exhibition fit-out contractor for the Paisley Museum Reimagined project. The much-loved town museum in Paisley, Scotland, is undergoing a £42 million project to transform it into a world-class attraction. It is the largest museum project in recent UK history with a fit-out contract of circa £6.8m

Paisley Museum dates back to 1871 and holds a significant collection, including the world’s largest collection of Paisley shawls and pattern books, artwork from the Glasgow Boys and an impressive collection of studio ceramics. It is also home to mediaeval manuscripts that date back to before the Reformation, a full volume of The Birds of America by John James Audubon, and many more popular artefacts including Buddy the stuffed lion.

The project is being undertaken by Renfrewshire Council and led by a project team from Renfrewshire Leisure, which will operate the museum once it reopens to the public.

A critical milestone

This is a key project for The Hub, which says it will take personal pride in delivering the scheme. The reimagined museum will offer an extensive programme of activities and opportunities for local communities and businesses and is a historic development for the town of Paisley. The project also shows the power of collaboration with the full team consisting of companies from all over the world.

Kirsty Devine, project director of Paisley Museum Reimagined, says: “We are delighted that The Hub has been appointed to lead the exhibition fit-out of the Museum. The contract represents a critical milestone in the delivery phase of the project, and we are excited to see the displays being built and installed after all the research and development work over the past five years.

“The Hub brings with them a wealth of experience and we are looking forward to working with them in the coming months.”

Bringing the designs to life

Richard Coughlin, managing director of The Hub adds:

“Being appointed as the exhibition fit-out contractor for the Paisley Museum Reimagined project is a momentous occasion for The Hub. As a market leader for specialist fit-out across the UK and internationally with a portfolio of award-winning museums, including The Box in Plymouth, being able to create a world-class attraction within the UK fills our team with immense pride.

“Over the next 18 months, we will work collaboratively with the Paisley Museum Reimagined Team to bring Opera Amsterdam’s designs to life. Throughout the museum’s delivery, we will work with local communities, businesses, institutions, and suppliers, to provide extensive opportunities, allowing them to play a part in the development of a figurehead for cultural institutions.

“As the project progresses, we look forward to sharing more of our exciting journey assembling this remarkable museum!”

The Hub has delivered a number of award-winning schemes for the museum, heritage, arts, culture and interior sectors worldwide, working with clients such as The V&A, The British Museum, American Battle Monuments Commission, Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Virgin Atlantic and the Natural History Museum.

Thanks to its in-house project delivery, the company is able to provide a personable and bespoke service from concept through to completion that includes but is not limited to cost management, design, project management, manufacturing and installation.
