President Donald Trump has directed that signs be placed outside the Smithsonian Museum of American History informing guests that some of its exhibits present what his administration describes as "inaccurate information".
The executive order, titled 'Restoring Trust in the Smithsonian Institution' and dated 24 July, is part of the Trump administration's ongoing review of the Smithsonian.
It comes after the White House's recent report criticising the Smithsonian's leadership and accusing the institution of "extreme political activism".

The report also accused the Smithsonian Museum of American History of "anti-white activism", "illegal alien activism", and "transgender activism".
In the order, Trump said the report "demonstrates that the Smithsonian leadership does not present American history as a shared national inheritance to be taught and celebrated, but instead views American history as a 'prime tool' to advance ideas of social justice and the radical transformation of our society".
The report, Trump wrote, "overwhelmingly demonstrates that current leadership of both the Smithsonian Institution and the museum cannot be trusted to tell America’s story with honesty and gratitude".
The order directs the Department of Interior to install the temporary signage along sidewalks and walkways used by the public to access the Smithsonian Museum of American History.
Guests directed to "accurate information"
The signage will inform guests of the report's findings and "direct visitors to locations and resources for accurate information regarding America’s history", Trump wrote in the order.
The executive order comes as the White House continues its review of the Smithsonian's exhibitions, materials, and operations.
The Smithsonian is also conducting its own content review to comply with another executive order issued by Trump, which directed the removal of "improper, divisive, or anti-American ideology" from Smithsonian locations.
