Lappset Creative brings play experiences to retail spaces

News
Balubaland Lappset Creative

Firm showcases its expertise in creating themed indoor play spaces with Balubaland at Jessheim Shopping Centre

Lappset Creative, a leading provider of themed and branded activity attractions, will be designing and delivering highly-themed indoor attractions to shopping centres around the world, building on the demand for social and active entertainment possibilities as a part of leisure and shopping experiences.

Consumers no longer visit shopping centres only to browse a few stores before leaving. Shopping malls today are seeking ways to offer their patrons multi-dimensional experiences that include not only shopping but also socialising, entertainment, and even educational opportunities.

Customers are looking for ways to spend quality time together, so it is beneficial for shopping centres to offer more attractions and features. For retail operators, the more time that consumers spend in their mall, the more revenue they will generate.

Balubaland themed indoor playground

A major provider in location-based entertainment, Lappset Creative specialises in highly-themed indoor playgrounds. The company has more than 50 years of expertise in the play industry and is a master in creating fun, interactive, and engaging themed family entertainment experiences.

The team draws on best practices from Finnish education principles when designing a themed play experience, and also takes a STEAM approach. With its turnkey solutions, Lappset Creative takes on the responsibility of developing themed attractions, from the initial ideas right through to the final stage of welcoming the first guests.

Recently, the firm has assisted shopping malls in Europe by adding entertainment to their offer, therefore boosting visitor dwell time and return rate and giving the operators an opportunity to diversify revenue streams. By providing an opportunity to enjoy a memorable experience, the shopping malls are adding value for the customer.

Lappset Creative Balubaland

One such example is Balubaland, a new themed indoor attraction in Jessheim Shopping Centre, Norway. In June 2022, Lappset Creative, together with their local partner, Trigonor AS, successfully handed over a highly themed indoor playground – Balubaland. The venture is unique in the Norwegian shopping centre context, as it combines associated stores in the children’s segment to create a 2000-square-metre retail and entertainment cluster targeting families with children.

It is home to the mall’s much-loved beloved Baluba and his friends. Guests can now engage and create memories together with Baluba in a jungle-themed, 400-square-metre attraction, complete with climbing and balancing activities, games, slides, interactives and more. Balubaland is ticketed and staffed, with an admissions area, a merchandise corner and customer storage facilities. It is ideal for younger visitors, between two and 10 years old. The main material is Northern pine, an environmentally friendly, renewable natural resource.

From a project management perspective, Balubaland was a fast-paced project with close monitoring and flexibility. The cooperation and co-creation of Balubaland with the customer was seamless and the design work was done with clear goals in mind, in order to create a unique brand attraction for Jessheim Shopping Mall.
