Panasonic Connect Casa Battlo Refik Anadol six sided LED cube

Bright and back together – ISE2022

Attendees explored the latest tech and innovations across Pro-AV.

After two years, Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) was back in full force in its new home in Barcelona, Spain.

Taking place 10th-13th May 2022 and postponed from earlier in the year, 43,691 attendees from 151 countries descended on the show to see the latest innovations across pro-audio visual technology.  The show is co-owned by AVIXA and Cedia.

Refik Anadol, a leading media artist specialising in data and machine intelligence, was the day one keynote speaker. Anadol created several installs at Casa BattlĆ³, the Gaudi designed house in  Barcelona including the ā€˜In the Mind of Gaudiā€™ artwork for the worldā€™s first six-sided LED-walled room (see Header Pic).

The weekend before ISE, Anadolā€™s new ā€˜Living Architectureā€™ show was projected onto the outside of the attraction in collaboration with Panasonic Connect. The event was seen by 40,000 locals, with the digital artwork also selling as an NFT at Christies in New York for 1.38 million euros after the event. The NFT is unique in that is will be ā€˜livingā€™ and updated according to Barcelonaā€™s weather and seasonal events.

Panasonic Connect have worked closely with Casa BattlĆ³ to blend technology and take visitors into the mind of Antoni GaudĆ, by reinventing various spaces in the attraction.

In the GaudĆ Dome, 36 Panasonic Projectors (PT-RZ660 and PT-JS200 models) and a dome with more than 1000 screens showcase the inspirations of a young GaudĆ. Guests can enjoy the experience on a revolving floor, and in such a small area, the projectorā€™s ultra-short throw lenses allow visitors to move around the space not creating shadows.

At night in the courtyard of the attraction, a waterfall is projection mapped with 7 PTRS20K laser projectors each delivering 20,000 lumens of brightness using ET-D3LEF70 fisheye lenses. The challenge was to do all this in an extremely small heritage-protected attraction that doesnā€™t have a single straight line!

At the show, Panasonic Connect launched two new 20,000 lumen projectors. The PT-RQ25K projector series includes the worldā€™s smallest and lightest 20,000 lumen, 4k, 3-chip DLP projector, releasing September 2022. Also the PT-MZ20K is a 20,000 lumen LCD projector which is the worldā€™s smallest, lightest and also the quietest, ideal for museum environments available December 2022.

The PT-TMZ400 series is a short throw 4000 lumen projector also suited for smaller museums, and with the refined optical design and efficient SOLID SHINE Laser light source, the energy consumption is reduced as well as waste and maintenance, available September 2022.

Illuminarium

Alan Greenberg, CEO and co-founder of Illuminarium Experiences kicked off the keynote on Day two. This immersive multi-sensory destination uses state-of-the art technologies and has expanded to its second location in Las Vegas, with more planned across the US and Europe too.

On the Panasonic Connect booth we heard from Brian Allen, Executive Vice President of Technology and Content at Illuminarium Experiences on their partnership.

WILD safari

ā€œWe needed high brightness RQ50K native 5k, the best quality picture, and Panasonic was willing to develop this ultra short throw lens with us to allow guests to explore content up close. Choosing a partner isnā€™t about the product, its about the relationship and sharing the vision togetherā€ said Allen.

Powersoftā€™s MOVER linear transducers were used at Illuminarium in Atlanta in the haptic infrasound floor to create realistic sensations. Instead of other kickers that just have an on or off setting, MOVER can create various ranges in vibrations from big movements like an elephantā€™s stomp to the low-rumble of a lions roar. 162 MOVERs were used in the 8,000 sq ft room, the largest installation of the linear transducer to date.

Complex projections on the Barco booth

At ISE, Barco were showcasing their new LED video wall TruePix, combining the latest technological evolutions with Barcoā€™s vast expertise and engineering. The high-resolution 16:9 tiles are available in various options with pixel pitched from 0.9mm to 1.9mm.

A large diamond-shaped installation on the Barco booth showed off the complex configuration and powerful XDM projectors. The digital content for Barcoā€™s booth was designed by creative studio Dirty Monitor.

In addition to the booth, Barco and Flaix Studio lit up the PlaƧa dā€™Espanya in their ā€˜I RISEā€™ projection mapping show for three nights of ISE.

Christie’s new 1mm pixel pitch MicroTiles LED

Christie had a vast array of tech on display including two stacked M4K25 RGB pure laser projectors dramatically projection mapped their logo on the booth, below which was a demo of the companyā€™s new 1mm pixel pitch MicroTiles LED. Pandoras Box Version 8.5 was managing content for the display.

The Christie stand was probably the safest place at the expo with the Christie CounterAct disinfecting attendees on the stand using far-UVC light.

Digital Projections’ tech for tight spaces

At ISE 2022, Digital Projection showcased itā€™s native 4K INSIGHT, TITAN and Highlife Satellite Modular Laser System, as well as the latest Gen II laster phosphor illuminated INSIGHT Laser 8K and the worldā€™s first and only 8K DLP Projection.

Digital Projectionsā€™s satellite MLS technology separates the light source from the small projector head (up to 100m) so allows integrators greater freedom especially in attractions like dark rides or museums where space is tight or access is restrict, while also reduced noice and heat from the audience.

The team were showcasing their MultiView technology allowing for immersive, collaborative and interactive 3D experiences. A single projector produces ultra-fast frame rates and is able to accommodate and track several viewers each from their own perspective. This is ideal for museums allowing for explanations of a guide from individual perspectives but also in interactive theme park rides too.

Immersive art space and dome

Onew new space at ISE 2022 was the Immersive Art space. This showcased several of Exhibition Hubā€™s award-winning immersive art experiences including Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo and Gustav Klimt. This was created with the support of AED Display, AV Stumpfl, AV-Drop / Showtex, Barco, Fluge, LANG and more.

In a session held in the giant immersive dome created in collaboration with software solutions specialist VIOSO, ā€œMuseums in the Age of the Metaverseā€ discussed the role technology plays in these institutions.

ā€œI think the key word is authenticityā€ said Lieven Bertels, Segment Marketing Manager, Immersive Experiences at Barco. ā€œWe need to design experiences where people donā€™t need to be bothered how it works, but using technology to help lift that content to the next levelā€.

Mario Iacampo, Creative Director, Exhibition Hub focused on the opportunities that tech presents museums. ā€œWeā€™ve exhibited Van Gogh around the world, which shows more than 400 pieces of art. This is unthinkable in a normal travelling exhibitionā€ said Iacampo. ā€œTechnology doesnā€™t take anything from the art or replace it, it heightens the accessibilityā€.
