Level X, billed as a new concept in family entertainment, has opened in Glasgow. Located in a former Hamleys retail space in the city’s St. Enoch Centre, Level X offers futuristic and immersive attractions.

Per a press release, Level X features Disney-style ‘load and play’ RFID wristband technology that gives guests unlimited access to the venue’s gaming offerings, as well as the ability to tap and pay for food and drinks.

Family-friendly gaming and attraction zones include ‘Alt Verse’, a virtual reality (VR) zone with games, VR headsets and VR pods. ‘Gutterball’ is a bowling attraction with graffiti art and bespoke bowling balls.

‘Level Up’ is a group of new and nostalgic games, including giant Hungry Hungry Hippos. ‘Big Putts’ is an indoor mini-golf course with technology in the balls that keeps score.

Level X founder Tim Wilks has plans to open at least four more locations across the UK in the next 18 months, including a 65,000-square-foot site in Middlesbrough.

“We’ve scoured the world to unearth the most exciting tech-led experiences and updated nostalgic favourites to bring them together under one roof with Level X,” said Wilks.

“We’re enormously excited to open in Glasgow. We see this as just the start for a brand that will become synonymous with a new approach to family entertainment centres in the UK.”

Level X is actively searching for suitable venues in city centres, including spaces vacated by retail outlets. The company is also looking to franchise the concept in order to expand globally.

New concept in family entertainment

“The need to reimagine family entertainment as well as what our future city centres will look like is upon us,” added Wilks.

“Immersive, tech-led gaming and entertainment on this scale is something that I predict will become commonplace in the necessary reinvention of our city centres up and down the UK.”

Wilks is also behind Lane7, a boutique bowling attraction with 11 sites across the UK.
