ILMxLAB unveiled the launch date and gameplay trailer for VR experience Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, based on the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge expansion at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
ILMxLAB also revealed that actor Frank Oz is reprising his role as Jedi Master Yoda in the upcoming virtual reality (VR) adventure, Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is a collaboration with Oculus Studios, and will be released on the Quest platform on November 19.
“Yoda is one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars galaxy, thanks in large part to the incredible performance of Frank Oz,” said director Jose Perez III.
“Working with Frank to weave Yoda into the fabric of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge was an unforgettable experience and a dream come true.
“I can’t wait for players to meet the Jedi Master face to face in our first exciting tale.”
Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge launches November 19
Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge puts players alongside iconic Star Wars characters including C-3PO (voiced by Anthony Daniels), R2-D2, and Mubo, the owner of Droid Depot.
The experience takes place on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu, as depicted at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Players take on the role of droid repair technicians who are attacked by a group of Guavian Death Gang pirates before crashing on Batuu.
“Stepping onto Batuu at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is a genuinely magical experience,” said producer Alyssa Finley.
“With Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, we’re expanding the story beyond Black Spire Outpost, giving players the chance to discover never-before-seen characters and locations.
“It’s an immersive adventure that can only exist in VR.”
In addition, ILMxLAB announced that a second instalment of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is scheduled for release in 2021.
