AI storytelling in interactive rides: Alterface presents at attractionsTECH | ISE 2019

Alterface Laurence Beckers talks AI and interactive rides at attractionsTECH ISE 2019

Alterface’s Creative Director, Laurence Beckers, will be examining how smart technologies like AI and XR can enhance storytelling and visitor experiences in theme park attractions at the attractionsTECH conference at ISE 2019.

Beckers will discuss how to get the balance right between creativity and technology when creating interactive attractions to produce a magical guest experience.

How AI enhanced storytelling shapes the future of interactive rides

How can smart technologies enhance storytelling and visitor experiences in theme park attractions? Beckers will look at how the most exciting new technologies can augment creativity and offer new opportunities for the attractions industry.

Storytelling can be enhanced with intelligent technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Deep Learning and Extended Reality (XR). XR brings Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) together under one term, and offers the most interesting potential for immersive and interactive rides.

Not only does the technology drive this process, but also the storyline.

Beckers says, “There is currently a vast offering of digital media entertainment, from entry level to highly sophisticated games. An interactive dark ride in a theme park should address young and old, so everyone has to understand the game dynamics very intuitively. Yet we need competitive elements for those seeking to excel. Not only does the technology drive this process, but also the storyline. Characters should emotionally appeal to the visitors and the story should be easy to grasp, offering enough challenge and engagement.”

Beckers has 18 years of experience in the creative industries, working at the intersection of art, science and technology. She leads the Alterface Creative Division in creating successful turnkey projects like the multiple awarded Bazilyszek in Legendia, Poland, and the new non-linear Popcorn Revenge® ride in Walibi Belgium.

Alterface is a leading interactive technologies company producing innovative media-based attractions for theme parks. The company created around 300 innovative dark rides, walkthroughs and flying theatres worldwide. Alterface is launching the first non-linear Erratic® Ride, which is ground-breaking in terms of the customisation of the visitor experience.

This industrial cross-fertilization can spur innovation and inspiration, exploring new opportunities and viewing different perspectives.

Alterface CEO and Founder Benoit Cornet says, “As an industry it’s important not to get locked up in your own box but to connect with other markets. This industrial cross-fertilization can spur innovation and inspiration, exploring new opportunities and viewing different perspectives.”
