ECA2, French multimedia show producers, opened their latest spectacular show – the Fountain of Dreams – in Wuyishan, Fujan, China on April 10th 2015.
The night time event is a multimedia production featuring a local cast combined with state-of-the-art video mapping, water fountains, water curtains pyrotechnics, lasers and other special effects as well as the world’s largest water screen (30 metres) and the world’s first waterfall-theatre.
Inspired by the breathtaking scenery of the region – a UNESCO designated world heritage site – the set recreates a terraced mountain scene and the story incorporates legends of the local Nine Bend River, the region’s famous tea and the waters of Wuyishan.
With an experienced multi-cultural team, ECA2 provided a turnkey service, from show concept and theatrical decor to design of the seating stands. The innovative cantilever roof design ensures a clear view throughout the audience and with water and light effects incorporated into the roof and seating area bringing the audience into the performance.
In addition to the contemporary cantilever roof design, other technical challenges included the complex video mapping onto the irregularly shaped set requiring multiple scans; launching fireworks from the water drenched set and control of the 10, 000 cubic metres per hour flow of water whilst protecting equipment.
With a Medialon show controller as a base, adapted by ECA2 for the multitude of complex elements in the show, and Christie projectors, the image quality and combination of effects delivers a spectacular result.
The theatre, designed by ECA2 and constructed by the client (Wuyishan Tourism Culture Group) is located next the river with the iconic mountain landscape providing a picturesque backdrop to the stage and a link with the natural surroundings.
Commenting on the new show, ECA2 CEO Jean-Christophe Canizares said, “What we are happy about is to see the result. The project was really ambitious and took many years – a 10, 000 mᵌ of water an hour cascade and a 30m roof are easy to plan on paper but we had to fight to maintain our goal and our idea. We have and we are happy because we have succeeded. We made it and we are proud of it.”
From the client, Ms Guo, President Wuyishan Culture & Tourism Investment Group said, “When we saw the design for the first time they questioned whether it could be really so beautiful, but the result is even more beautiful than the design. It was worth all the effort.”
The Vice Mayor, Mr Zhang, who attended the premier said that the show was, “Beyond our expectations.”
