The park launches the Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel and Luna coaster on 22 April.

Liseberg, a top theme park in Gothenburg, Sweden, has confirmed the opening date of its new hotel and roller coaster as part of its 100th anniversary in 2023.

Scandinavia’s largest amusement park is launching the Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel and Luna coaster on 22 April. In 2023, the Oceana water park will make its debut.

Liseberg, one of Europe’s leading attractions, welcomes around three million visitors every year. For its 100th anniversary, the park has invested around £195 million.

“Our goal is to become one of the world’s greatest amusement destinations, in all seasons, said Andreas Andersen, Liseberg’s CEO.

The new projects, he said, are “intended to support the park’s development into a year-round destination”.

“With the unique Grand Curiosa experience hotel and the new Oceana water world, we expect a significant increase in international guests,” he added.

The hotel has 457 family rooms, a restaurant on the first floor, a bistro on the roof terrace overlooking the park, a 1923 carousel and a slide to connect the second and third floors.

As for the new coaster, part of the new Luna Park area of Liseberg, Luna features 242 metres of track and speeds of up to 68 km/h.

The first phase of the â‚¬10m Luna Park, including the family-friendly Turbo and Tempus rides, opened in 2022.

The â‚¬110m Oceana water park covers an area of 14,000 square metres, offering quiet sandy beaches, a wave pool, 14 rides and four huge waterslides.

Earlier this year, Liseberg reported both record profit and turnover for 2022. “We have recovered faster than we dared hope for,” said Andersen.

“With 2022 behind us, we can close the door on the pandemic and look towards the future.”

“Liseberg has weathered economic downturns well in the past, and we have confidence in our investment plans and business model,” he added.
