Images of Singapore and Madame Tussauds Singapore to become new Merlin attraction hub.

Merlin Entertainments has announced that it will be opening a new ‘celebrity’ wax attraction, Madame Tussauds Singapore, in 2014.

In partnership with Sentosa Development Corporation, Merlin will also take on the management of the popular Images of Singapore (IOS) attraction.

Madame Tussauds Singapore will open at Imbiah Lookout on Sentosa in 2014, together with IOS, creating a hub of two complimentary attractions operating next to each other.

Mike Barclay, Chief Executive Officer of Sentosa Development Corporation said, “We are excited to partner with Merlin Entertainments to offer our guests two world-class attractions at the same location. The development of these two attractions, which will educate and entertain in equal measure, is part of our ongoing efforts to refresh Sentosa’s existing attractions.

Madame Tussauds Singapore will be the first Merlin attraction in Singapore, joining the other Madame Tussauds in Asia in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Wuhan.

Merlin plans a significant investment programme to enhance the visitor experience at the Images of Singapore (IOS) attraction ahead of its relaunch.  In addition Madame Tussauds Singapore will feature a ride inspired by the rich culture and history of Singapore.  (Madame Tussauds Singapore will be the only Madame Tussauds outside London to include a ride.)

Meike Schulze, Divisional Director of Merlin Entertainments plc Midway Attractions in Asia, said: “Asia is currently the most important growth area of the world for Merlin, and we are delighted to be working with the Sentosa Development Corporation to not only rejuvenate and re-establish IOS, but also to bring one of our best known attractions to Singapore – Madame Tussauds.

“We have a lot of admiration for how Singapore has developed its strong tourism offering and see Sentosa as one of the leading attractions destinations in Southeast Asia. As an exciting and vibrant international hub, Singapore is the ideal location for a Madame Tussauds, and we are confident that with a touch of Merlin Magic, we will add a new element to the country’s successful entertainment offering.  We have long seen the potential for bringing our global brands here and we look forward to working together with Sentosa to introduce other exciting, new and refreshing concepts in the future.”
