The new transportation system, Disney character-driven Minnie Vans, is a collaboration with Lyft, the ride-share specialists.

The concept of the Minnie Vans was first announced at D23 Expo 2017.  Now the first phase of the new transportation system has been launched.  Yesterday was their first official day of operation.

The bright red Chevrolet cars are certainly distinctive, painted with Minnie Mouse’s iconic white polka dot design.

At present Minnie Vans are only available for guests at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort and Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts.  An expansion time frame has not been announced.

Resort guests summon the Minnie Vans via the regular Lyft app on their smartphones.  Initially the service will run between 6:30 a.m. and 12:30 a.m.  However this may be subject to change. The service will cost $20 per trip.

“Playing a part in a family’s experience at the most magical place on Earth is a dream come true,” says John Zimmer, President and Co-Founder of Lyft.

There are 27 vehicles in the fleet at present.  Each holds up to six passengers.  Two are wheelchair-accessible.  Each car is driven by a Disney cast member.

Another Disney transportation system was also announced at the Expo in July.  The Disney Skyliner is a gondola-based system that will connect Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios with a variety of locations.
