Grupo Xcaret is set to open its latest attraction, Xibalbá Park, by the end of 2022. The $50 million destination will offer a tour of eight cenotes.

Located in Valladolid, Yucatán, Xibalbá covers an area of more than 600 acres and will be able to accommodate up to 2,000 visitors at a time, the Cancun Sun reports.

The $50 million park will feature a traditional Mayan village where guests can purchase Mexican products and crafts. It will also include a tour of eight natural cenotes, and an aviary with more than 4,000 bird species.

Guests can either enjoy a walking tour of the cenotes, kayak through them, or view them from above via zip line. One of the cenotes will offer a musical show with performers in traditional costumes.

Originally scheduled to open in December 2020, Xibalbá is larger than the original Xcaret Park. It will create up to 300 direct and indirect jobs in the area.

Xcaret is home to more than 40 attractions in the jungle, caves and underground rivers of Mexico. These include an aquarium and four archaeological sites.

“This is the biggest project that Grupo Xcaret has developed until now. It’s the most lavish, grandiose, the most beautiful,” Grupo Xcaret president Miguel Quintana Pali said in a previous statement.

“The idea is to steep visitors in the culture of Yucatán,” added David Quintana Morones, director of development at Grupo Xcaret.

Grupo Xcaret’s biggest project to date

Grupo Xcaret’s attractions include Xplor, Xenotes, Xoximilco, Xenses, Xel-ha and Xavage. In addition to parks, the group has tours and activities to visit the ancient ruins of Chichén Itzá, Tulum and Cobá.

“We are proud to be considered the first and most important ecologically and socially sustainable tourism company in Mexico,” said Pali.

Grupo Xcaret is investing $400m over the next eight years.
