Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, is preparing for a brand-new experience. Located in a building that resembles the Roy E. Disney Animation Building, this upcoming family attraction, The Magic of Disney Animation, aims to bring the magic of animation to life in an unprecedented way.

In 2026, the new destination will open in what is currently the Star Wars: Launch Bay, and will be topped with Mickey's Sorcerer Hat. The story begins with the animators temporarily leaving, but the space remains lively as the characters come to life.

Off the Page

A key highlight is Off the Page!, where visitors can meet beloved characters from Walt Disney Animation films while exploring the craftsmanship behind each frame. Six distinct departments from the animation studio—story, layout, hand-drawn animation, computer animation, lighting, and effects—are showcased.

Each area provides photo opportunities with fan-favourite characters. Guests can meet Mulan in the story department, where they can pose for a photo in front of a giant storyboard panel, or visit the background & layout department, where Rapunzel waits in a scene inspired by the classic multiplane camera.

A collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Animation Studios, Off the Page! aims to fully immerse visitors in the art of animation

Dan Abraham, Walt Disney Animation Studios director and co-director of the Once Upon a Studio short, says:

“It’s so cool because you’re waiting in line to have fun with the characters… and you’re getting to see a bit of history of the studio as well. It could very well inspire people to move our studio into the future when they [join Walt Disney Animation Studios] and carry on this legacy that has meant so much to so many people.”

Coming 2026

Other experiences include the Drawn to Wonderland indoor playground, which features an oversized flower garden with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area, all inspired by Disney legend Mary Blair's original concept art for Alice in Wonderland.

Beyond the walls, the courtyard is transformed into The Walt Disney Studios, inspired by various buildings in Burbank. This tribute to the famous Walt Disney Studios Lot features the Studio Theater, which will still host The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure. Additionally, at the soundstage, a new Disney Jr. experience will be available.

Families can relax, play, or snack under lush trees while exploring the studio grounds and courtyard.

As the teams prepare the new attraction, Animation Courtyard and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! are closed. In the meantime, guests can still experience under-the-sea adventures with Ariel in The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and explore the exhibits and film at Walt Disney Presents.

The inspiration for this brand-new adventure, Disney Animation’s Once Upon a Studio, is available on Disney+.

Last month, Walt Disney World opened its new Zootopia 4D show at Animal Kingdom. It also recently confirmed the removal of 3D from Remy's Ratatouille Adventure at Epcot.
