Mona‘s award-winning bar and restaurant Faro is reopening from August 15 for a series of experimental lunch and dinner experiences, including mystery menus and access to Mona.
The Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) in Hobart, Tasmania is shut until at least late 2020. However, owner David Walsh is opening Faro Bar and Restaurant before then for experimental meals.
According to the website, Walsh’s “brain has been working overtime” while devising a plan to reopen Faro and “experiment on you therein”.
Participants of the ‘Weekend Lunch Experiments’ will have a mystery menu, and the theme will change each week. Faro will experiment with food, drinks, live music and societal norms.
Participants must sign a waiver ‘absolving Mona’

Visitors will even need to sign a waiver “absolving Mona of any charges of poor taste”, but they will get the chance to see areas of the closed museum.
‘Weekend Lunch Experiments’ are running between August 15 and September 20 on Saturdays and Sundays, with a $10 per person booking deposit required.
‘Saturday Dinner Experiment’ is apparently a “moveable feast” with a changing theme. As visitors enter the closed museum, their pleasure response will be tested with light tunnels and glass-blown caves.

They will also get a five-course mystery dinner and can attend on Saturdays from August 15 to September 20 for $100 per person.
Finally, ‘Saturday Luxe Dinner Experiment’ is for the fancy experimental customer, who will roll the dice on a mystery six-course dinner, illuminated by Ryoji Ikeda’s spectra, a towering pillar of light.
Each course will be prepared by Mona’s executive chef Vince Trim, who will “mix up the menu and theme each week”. In addition, the food will be paired with luxe wine from the vault and Walsh’s private wine bunker, guided by a sommelier.
