Recreation of wartime camp to benefit from exhibit investment

Technically Creative, the immersive experience expert, has announced a new partnership with an English heritage experience.

The York-based company will be engaging with Eden Camp in Yorkshire, England, to reimagine and redesign the ‘Blitz Experience’. Technically Creative has been brought on as the Eden Camp team plan to bring the historical museum firmly into the future, by utilising new technologies to enhance its visual storytelling.

Eden Camp is an award-winning attraction, based in a genuine World War II prisoner of war camp.

Authentic experience

Visitors are invited to experience the sights and sounds of life on the Home Front and Front Line, within the location’s various huts and grounds.

The Eden Camp site was bought by Stan Johnson, and set to be demolished until three former Italian inmates re-visited and gave the owner the ultimate idea to create a museum that opened in 1987.

The museum has prided itself for decades on displaying genuine wartime artefacts, predominantly donated or procured from the general public over 36 years, along with a series of live events and living history reenactments.

Over time, there have been instances where items have been accidentally damaged (or stolen) by visitors, meaning many exhibits have to be heavily secured, barrier-protected or replicated, in an attempt to protect the original artefacts. The experience firm which has been brought in by Eden Camp is hopeful to help break down these barriers with the latest installation.

Modern heritage

Technically Creative has been asked to create a new immersive experience, in contrast to the static scenes found through most of the site. The company’s experience design team has created a concept by using layering techniques, combining classic themed elements such as models, props and thematic scenery setworks with modern lighting, audio and projection mapping systems.

Through the addition of animation, graphics and special effects Technically Creative are blending tried and tested methods with advanced technology in the right proportions, to create a better experience.

Just the start

Eden Camp won Best Educational Day Out in the SME News’ Northern Enterprise 2021 awards as well as TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice 2020 and Certificate of Excellence 2019.

Technically Creative say they “are confident that this project will be the beginning of a beautiful relationship with Eden Camp”. The new Blitz Experience is set to open to museum visitors early next year.

Last year Technically Creative founder and managing director Marc Broadbent provided insight into the company’s projects and success since it was founded in 2019.

The company has also announced it has teamed up with five leading creative companies to form Vigilante, a new collaborative group.
