MSG Entertainment is adding the immersive audio technology developed for Sphere in Las Vegas to Radio City Music Hall, one of New York City's most famous entertainment venues.
Sphere Immersive Sound, the world's most advanced concert audio system, will launch at Radio City Music Hall this autumn.
Per a press release, it will take the nearly 100-year-old venue into the future and make it "the best sounding theater in the world".
Sphere Immersive Sound, which is currently in use at both Sphere in Las Vegas and the Beacon Theatre in New York, will debut at Radio City with the 2025 Christmas Spectacular starring the Radio City Rockettes.
Jessica Tuttle, executive vice president, productions at MSG Entertainment, said: “With the unique capabilities of Sphere Immersive Sound, we can creatively play with music and sound effects within the Music Hall to immerse audiences in Christmas like never before and transport them into a holiday wonderland.”
Advanced audio technology at MSG venues
From January, Sphere Immersive Sound will be used for all concerts and events at the venue.
“The introduction of Sphere Immersive Sound at Radio City is the next evolution in the nearly 100-year legacy of this iconic venue, and represents a significant investment in the Music Hall that will benefit all artists and guests,” said Josephine Vaccarello, executive vice president, live for MSG Entertainment.
Sphere Immersive Sound utilises next-generation 3D audio beamforming and wave field synthesis technology to provide controlled, consistent, and crystal-clear audio.
With more than 7,000 individually amplified loudspeaker drivers, the Sphere technology will substantially improve the visitor experience at Radio City.
It will also provide artists and engineers with increased programming control and flexibility, including the ability to spatialise audio.
Earlier this year, an AI-powered version of 1939 musical fantasy film The Wizard of Oz launched at the Sphere in Vegas.
The 2025 Christmas Spectacular opens on 6 November at Radio City Music Hall.
