Racing is more accessible than before, allowing users to compete on equal terms

Wave Italy, a provider of professional racing simulators, has shared an ongoing project which will provide the first professional sim racing driving simulator that is adapted for athletes and people with disabilities.

At a special e-sports event hosted by CONI (the Italian National Olympic Committee), the Sim Racing PRO Inclusive simulator project was unveiled for the first time on 23 November 2022 in Rome, Italy.

This simulator has been created and promoted in cooperation with Go Kart Experience APS, the official promoter and starter of the project “Motorsport for Planet & People”, Fadiel Italiana Srl and DS Performance Driving, which was founded and directed by ex-F1 pilot Domenico Schiattarella.

“We are very proud and happy to be an active part of this inclusive project,” says a Wave Italy representative. “Why define it as inclusive? [This device] will be an important tool to further expand the diffusion and practice of motorsport and competitive driving simulation (sim racing, in fact), by breaking down barriers to make these exciting sporting activities inclusive.

“Wave Italy’s motto and philosophy since its foundation has been “From real racing cars to your simulator”. By taking up this concept for this new simulator, and the first in the Sim Racing sector, technical solutions used on real cars have been implemented, which have allowed the optimisation of ergonomics, and allows people with disabilities to be able to compete on equal terms with other athletes.”

Showing this in practice, the driver’s seat anchorage has been modified in particular to facilitate the transition from the wheelchair to the simulator seat. Other features include ergonomic material for the seat padding, a floor brake lever has been installed, and a manual wired accelerator has been installed to optimise and ease the handle. Various customization options are available for customers upon request.

Wave Italy, which is active in E-Sports, is currently the only firm in the world that covers all areas of the Sim Racing panorama, including peripherals and Formula and GT vehicle simulators. The company also hires out its simulators for events and sells or rents them out for extended periods to venues such as museums, autodromes, resorts, and ships.

The company recently celebrated its successful visit to IAAPA Expo in Orlando, where Wave Italy shared the trade show floor with over 1,000 exhibiting companies.
