Spanish theme park operator Parques Reunidos is set to acquire Belantis, a theme park located in Leipzig, Germany.
Multiple media reports state that Parques Reunidos is currently involved in talks with Event Park, the owner and operator of Belantis, regarding a potential purchase of the 30-hectare park. Neither company involved has commented on the reports.
The source of the media reports is a publication from the Federal Cartel Office, Germany’s competition regulator. It would need to give approval before any deal could go ahead.
Parques Reunidos is one of the largest amusement park groups in the world, operating more than 60 water, animal and leisure parks worldwide. In 2010, it acquired Movie Park Germany. Last year, the company was linked to a potential purchase of Florida-based attraction company SeaWorld.
Belantis opened in 2003 following 19 months of construction at a cost of €50m ($54.4m). The park made a loss of €380,000 ($416,000) in 2015, according to German newspaper reports.
