Theme parks

Disney is celebrating Marvel’s 80th anniversary with new superhero-themed attractions at Disney Parks around the world, including the Avengers Campus, the Worldwide Engineering Brigade and a Spider-Man ride.

Universal Orlando Resort has announced that the eagerly awaited “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” projection mapping experience will make its debut on the 14th September.

Disney has patented a “capturepult” system to improve the efficiency of boat water rides.

Disney has revealed more details of the eagerly anticipated Rise of the Resistance ride, set to open in a few months at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Walt Disney World Resort has revealed more about Epcot’s historic transformation – including a Mary Poppins themed attraction, the new PLAY! Pavilion, and a Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster.

Six Flags has revealed the new attractions for 2020. Jim Reid-Anderson describes the additions as the “biggest and most diverse lineup in the company’s history”.

Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC) has revealed plans for Six Flags Qiddiya which will be the largest and most expensive Six Flags theme park to date, featuring 28 rides and attractions.

Secret Cinema is taking its immersive movie experiences to China, in partnership with SMG Live. ‘Secret Cinema Presents Casino Royale’ will open in Shanghai in November.

Following the termination of the contract to deliver Lionsgate Entertainment City in NYC, Lionsgate is building a £100 million production facility in New York, with space to create a location-based entertainment property similar to its offerings in China and the Middle East.

Fortress Esports has announced plans for the largest video gaming and esports entertainment venue in the Southern Hemisphere, at Emporium Melbourne.

Emaar Entertainment is soon to launch the UAE’s first high-end electric e-karting experience – EKart Zabeel – at the Dubai Mall.

Arcadia Earth, an immersive augmented reality journey around the planet, has arrived in New York City. The experience was created to highlight the environmental threats to Earth.

Walltopia has created the world’s largest artificial cave attraction – Green Box in Beijing – with 250m of tunnels including 26 different routes.

Museums

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams has become the most-visited exhibition in the V&A Museum’s history, with a record 594,994 visitors.

The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) has unveiled three preliminary concepts to reimagine the La Brea Tar Pits, from Dorte Mandrup, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and WEISS/MANFREDI.

The first concept images of the Paisley Museum’s £42 million transformation by architects AL_A have been unveiled. The attraction in Scotland is set to open in 2022.

Sony Design is showcasing a futuristic installation about artificial intelligence and robotics, ‘Affinity in Autonomy’, at the V&A for the 2019 London Design Festival.

Zoos

Council planners have backed Chester Zoo’s Grasslands project, which will feature overnight accommodation, a restaurant, and an African savannah with various habitats.

Ocean Park and Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong (OPCFHK) has launched the Hong Kong Marine Life Stranding and Education Centre, a marine research, training and education facility.

Other attractions

Puy du Fou has opened Puy du Fou España with the new show ‘El Sueno de Toledo’, based on Spanish history.

Further pavilions for Dubai Expo 2020 have been revealed, including Italy and Morocco’s offerings, and Singapore’s net-zero energy pavilion designed by WOHA.
