Wiegand, a family-owned manufacturer of toboggan runs, rail-mounted toboggans and stainless steel dry slides, is set to open a new slide and hike trail in Ehrwald, Austria, in spring 2026.
The first three of the trail's six stainless steel slides have been installed by helicopter.
These are located on the slope directly below the Zugspitze, which sits on the Austrian border and is Germany's highest mountain.

Enhancing mountain adventures
The slide-and-hike concept is becoming increasingly popular and offers visitors a fun new way to enhance their descent down the mountain.
At the Zugspitzpark in Ehrwald, Wiegand is creating a unique adventure trail with six slides of different lengths and designs.
Hikers can hire lightweight felt mats for a small fee and slide down as often as they like throughout the day.
After taking the lift up in comfort, guests can enjoy the slides on their hike down.
This concept appeals to a broad target audience of mountain visitors who are increasingly discovering summer tourism for themselves.

Connected by varied hiking trails, this experience caters to children, young people and adults alike and brings new focus to the lift at the family-friendly resort.
Wiegand's stainless steel slides offer high capacity, durability, year-round operation, and low maintenance.
Additionally, the slides can be enhanced with lighting effects, foiling, colourful covers, and elements such as tunnel slides, open slides with curves or waves, and free-fall elements.
At Ehrwald, Weigand is supplying two Slide Tubes, a Slide Trough with an acrylic Makrolon cover, an Open Trough Slide, a Slide Tube wave slide and a Family Racer Wave Slide. Their height differences range from 7.75 to 14 metres down the mountainside.
Last month, Wiegand, shared details of its spiral double slide for Moderna Museet, a state museum for modern and contemporary art located on the island of Skeppsholmen in central Stockholm, Sweden.
