Chinese streaming service iQIYI has opened its first iQIYI Land theme park, a technology-enabled attraction located in Yangzhou.

The new park utilises iQIYI's vast portfolio of TV and film brands to provide an immersive experience enhanced by cutting-edge technology.

Located in Yangzhou, the attraction is China's first immersive indoor theme park developed by a streaming platform.

It is part of iQIYI's strategy to expand its IPs beyond streaming and bring its content to life through physical, immersive experiences.

"At iQIYI, we have spent 15 years forging emotional bonds online," said Yu Gong, founder and CEO of iQIYI.

"With iQIYI Land, we're bringing that connection into the real world," he added.

"By blending original Chinese IP with immersive technologies such as VR and AI, we are pioneering a next-generation, interactive theme park deeply tied to our content.

"As demand for offline entertainment surges, we see iQIYI Land as a new driver for our long-term growth."

Blending Chinese IP and immersive tech

Covering approximately 10,000 square meters, iQIYI Land offers an immersive theatre attraction themed to Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty that combines VR, motion systems, scent, wind, sound and real actors.

Another experience utilises digital technology to recreate cinematic scenes from To the Wonder and Love Between Fairy and Devil.

Elsewhere, live theatrical productions inspired by brands including Mysterious Lotus Casebook integrate LED screens, rotating stages, projections and real actors.

Additionally, guests can take photos in themed locations from TV shows and films like The Knockout, To the Wonder and Northward.

Highlights also include live character interactions, multiplayer game zones, and themed F&B outlets and shops.

In December, iQIYI announced plans for its fourth theme park, located in Hangzhou. The company is developing new parks in Kaifeng and Beijing, too.

US-based streaming service Netflix is also expanding its LBE footprint with the new Netflix House venues.
