LGBTQ+

The attractions industry increasingly recognises the importance of inclusivity and representation, with a growing focus on creating welcoming environments for LGBTQ+ visitors. This change promotes diversity and inclusion in society as a whole. It also improves the experience for visitors.

One noteworthy development is the big theme parks’ dedication to LGBTQ+ inclusiveness. Disney Parks, for instance, demonstrates its commitment to diversity through its inclusive policies and practices, which include gender-neutral restrooms and acknowledgement of same-sex couples. Another noteworthy example is the yearly “Pride is Universal” event at Universal Studios Hollywood. This after-hours event features live music, DJ sets, and ride access, creating a joyful and welcoming atmosphere. These gatherings demonstrate Universal’s commitment to accepting and honouring the LGBTQ+ community.

When it comes to museums, London is home to Queer Britain. The team behind this museum set out to create a space where all members of the LBGTQ+ community could see their stories being told.  Zoos and aquariums also contribute. In one of the world’s most LGBTQ+-friendly cities, the San Francisco Zoo promotes inclusivity through employee training, community engagement, and local Pride events.

Technological developments are helping to make attractions more inclusive. Virtual reality (VR) experiences, such as the “LGBTQ+ VR Museum,” which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival, offer immersion approaches to LGBTQ+ history and stories. These experiences have the potential to increase empathy and awareness.

Attractions that are inclusive attract a broader range of visitors and encourage patronage from a variety of groups. Prioritising inclusivity and representation as the business develops will be essential to staying relevant and resonating in a diverse and international market.
