Flying Fish, an award-winning producer of touring museum and science centre exhibitions, has announced the launch of its latest travelling exhibition. Mission: Astronaut, is an interactive experience that immerses visitors in astronaut training as they learn about life in space.
This new production brings together education and play and is ideal for families and caregivers with children aged between 4 and 12. Visitors can enjoy a range of hands-on STEM challenges and engaging interactives, as they explore different areas that show what life in space might be like.
Exploring life in space
Mission: Astronaut will combine fantasy with fact via a scientific lens, drawing inspiration from the success of one of Flying Fish’s earlier exhibitions, Voyage to the Deep – Underwater Adventures.
Visitors can pilot a spacecraft, look around a space sleep pod, prepare a meal in orbit, and use a robotic arm to gather space junk. They can even practise gardening on Mars using augmented reality (AR) technology, while an immersive location will show off stunning views of space as well as upcoming technologies and missions.
The exhibit’s goal is to inform visitors about the challenges of space living and the ways that space research can be used to advance both space exploration and life on Earth. It covers engineering ideas and how important they are for enduring harsh conditions, inspiring viewers to think about how creativity and technology may progress space travel and exploration.
Mission Astronaut premieres at The DoSeum in San Antonio, Texas, USA, in February 2024.
Last month, a new immersive touring exhibition from Flying Fish called OceanXperience, created in partnership with OceanX, made its debut. This is based on the forthcoming television series produced by OceanX and BBC Studios Natural History Unit for National Geographic. Earlier this year, Jay Brown, principal & managing director of Flying Fish, spoke to blooloop about this new exhibition, as well as the firm’s ‘For Museums, By Museums‘ ethos.
