Orlando stories

Orlando

Orlando is the most visited destination in the US, popular with families for its array of attractions, favourable Floridian climate, and for being the “theme park capital of the world”.

The city caters for its guests with more than 130,000 rooms across more than 500 hotels and resorts, alongside two major airports, Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB).

The world’s most visited theme park, Magic Kingdom can be found in Orlando, as part of the Walt Disney World resort. This is also home to the Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Epcot and Animal Kingdom parks which also frequently top annual park indexes. The resort features over 30 hotels, alongside a comprehensive transport system and Disney Springs, a 120-acre shopping village.

Competitor Universal is also a dominant market player, with Universal Studios and Universal’s Islands of Adventure parks. A third park, Epic Universe, is currently being developed. Other parks include Fun Spot America and Gatorland.

With these strong connections to the industry, IAAPA regularly hosts its leading trade event, IAAPA Expo at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Centre, bringing together professionals from around the world each year.

The Florida climate is perfect for swimming, which has also ensured it is near the top of the list for aquatic/water park attractions. These include Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, Universal’s Volcano Bay and SeaWorld‘s Aquatica and Discovery Cove.

Whilst Orlando is primarily known for its theme parks and water parks, it is also home to a diverse and eclectic collection of attractions ranging from self-defined “tourist traps” to world-class destinations. These include golf courses, interactive experiences, and other leisure categories.

Museums in the city include the Orlando Science Center, Orlando Museum of Art, the Orange County Regional History Center and Ripley’s Believe it or Not!

Other major attractions in Orlando include ICON Park, a retailtainment complex that is home to a 400ft observation wheel and several midway attractions operated by Merlin Entertainments.
