The Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, Arizona is inviting bids for professional design services for the second phase of its redevelopment.

The City of Tucson has issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for design services for phase two of its master plan.

This phase includes the design and construction of the zoo's new habitat for pygmy hippos, a new meerkat exhibit and improvements to the areas for lions, giraffes and more animals.

The selected consultant will be responsible for preparing an architectural design programme, as well as schematic design, construction documents, and construction administration.

The project requires experience in zoo design, animal habitats, and construction administration, and the deadline to apply is 4 February.

In April 2024, the Reid Park Zoo broke ground on the first phase of its master plan; Pathway to Asia.

Project requires zoo design experience

The new 4.5-acre space is due to open this year and will be home to species such as Komodo dragons, red pandas and Malayan tigers.

This phase also includes the Lotus Pavilion venue for events, an adventure zone for children, and improvements completed in 2020 to the zoo's welcome area and Flamingo Lagoon.

The third and final phase of the master plan includes infrastructure improvements to the South America area, including enhanced lighting and new plumbing.
