greenloop is Blooloop’s online conference taking place 19-20 April 2022, online. greenloop is the only conference looking specifically at sustainability across the visitor attraction sector worldwide.

Our stellar line-up features sustainability leaders from some of the world’s leading visitor attractions, from major museums to theme parks, zoos and aquariums, who will discuss key initiatives and developments.

Our Eden Project session is at 11 am BST on 19 April.

When it comes to solving really big challenges, like how do we build sustainable theme parks, resorts and cruise ships around the world, it takes all of us and all of these different industries coming together.

With its iconic biomes, the Eden Project has been a leader in sustainable visitor attractions, since it first opened in a disused Cornish clay pit in 2001. Eden Project International was launched in 2014 to deliver social and ecological benefits to new locations around the world.

David joined Eden Project in 2013 and became the first CEO of Eden Project International, leading on the development of a portfolio of ambitious eco projects in China, Australia, the Middle East, Costa Rica as well as elsewhere in the UK, including Eden Project North in Morecambe.

David has leveraged his background in finance to drive Eden’s growth worldwide. As the leader of a diverse and expert staff, he brings highly qualified expertise to bear on all of Eden’s projects both at home in Cornwall and around the world.

Eden Project International is currently developing new projects across the UK – and on every inhabited continent of the world. UK locations for new Edens include Dundee, Morecambe, Derry and Dorset. The Eden Project is also heading to the US, China, Australia, New Zealand, Colombia and Costa Rica.

Eden Project North will reimagine Morecambe a seaside resort for the 21st century. It has been granted planning permission by Lancaster City Council and is due to open in 2024. “The project is now definitively shovel-ready and a compelling financial case has been made to government,” Harland said.

Eden Project Dundee, which will be constructed at the former Dundee Gasworks, has agreed a funding package of £7.6m with its partners that will take it through the next stages of detailed design and development. The agreement will fund work on the project “up to the point of shovels going into the ground”, Harland said.

Eden’s first attraction in South America is a collaboration with Colombia’s Humboldt Institute in the country’s Meta region. “Colombia is a country of huge natural world riches and is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, as well as having varied cultures and a rich history,” Harland said.

I cannot think of another event which goes near greenloop as a concentrated dollop of practical green inspiration – a must-attend for several of our team.
