SimEx-Iwerks Frostbite Dino Island III

Frostbite ā€“ Dino Island III will officially debut next year

SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment, an industry leader in immersive cinematic attractions, has announced its latest experience, Frostbite ā€“ Dino Island III, which will become the firm’s first custom-produced film for a flying theatre. The announcement, made in the same week as IAAPA Expo, also coincides with the company’s 30th anniversary.

SimEx-Iwerks debuted FlyRide, its family-friendly attraction that transports guests as they fly and dive through action on the screen, in 2020. The firm has since recognised the need for high-quality flying theatre content not only for its own theatres but also for flying theatres around the world.

“Distinctly different”

SimEx-Iwerks is one of the largest distributors of 4D experiences and motion ride films in the sector, working in partnership with some of the worldā€™s most prestigious studios.

ā€œSimilar to what we did for our 4D and motion attractions, we are drawing on our experience to build a catalogue of high-quality, adventure-based flying theatre films,ā€ said Mike Frueh, senior VP, licensing and distribution.

ā€œFrostbite is distinctly different from the live-action, regional-based themes of most flying films.ā€

Frostbite transports riders to the coast of Antarctica to observe frozen dinosaurs preserved within ice caverns as well as a dormant volcano.

The volcano erupts unexpectedly, and the ice caverns endure catastrophic flash melting. This causes the dinosaurs to thaw and come to life, putting humans face to face with the world’s most ferocious predators.

The new film was produced by SimEx-Iwerks in partnership with Red Raion, who created the experience’s CGI content.

Business development director at Red RaionValeria Rizzo says: ā€œOur team is thrilled to be part of the newest chapter of SimEx-Iwerksā€™ highly successful Dino Island franchise. We are excited to share a teaser of the film at IAAPA this week.ā€

Frostbite is currently in post-production, and will launch into flying theatres and motion theatres early next year, with a 4D Experience version later in 2023.

A teaser of the film will be showcased at both the Red Raion (#654) and SimEx-Iwerks (#2249) booths during IAAPA Expo this week.
