Disneyland has announced that an ‘ambitious reimagining’ of Mickey’s Toontown will debut in early 2023 alongside the land’s new ride, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
Disneyland Resort is closing Mickey’s Toontown in March 2022 in order to develop play experiences for the land, which will reopen in early 2023 with the new ride-through attraction.
Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney parks, experiences and products, revealed the news at IAAPA Expo 2021. “We are so excited to leverage Disney’s powerful brand, develop new stories and share even more magical experiences with our guests,” he said.
“The newly reimagined Mickey’s Toontown will be a welcoming place where families and younger guests can connect and play together in fun new ways,” D’Amaro added.
New play experiences at Toontown

Mickey’s Toontown will boast more play activities and attractions than ever before. One of the new additions is CenTOONial Park, a natural space that is anchored by two interactive play experiences.
Designed for play, a fountain will offer a sensory experience with water tables. Nearby, a dreaming tree inspired by a tree in Walt Disney’s hometown will boast sculpted tree roots where children can play, crawl and explore.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Disney’s first ride-through attraction featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse, opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in March 2020.
Last month, Disneyland Resort increased ticket prices and introduced a new top tier for the most in-demand days of the year that costs $164. Disneyland told Deadline the changes are due to “pent-up demand after 14-month closure”.
