The resort is recycling used soaps from its hotels and operational costumes from the parks.

Disneyland Paris has unveiled some of its latest recycling initiatives, including the reuse of soaps used in its hotels and the recycling of operational costumes from the parks.

The European resort has been working with non-profit organisation SapoCycle to recycle used soaps from its hotels since April 2022. These are being redistributed to families in France.

Over the past year, more than 2.5 tonnes of soap has been collected from Disneyland Paris’ hotels, before being recycled and redistributed to around 5,600 households in the country.

As for the resort’s operational costumes, any worn or damaged costumes are recycled via bins in the theme parks and then transformed into insulating wire or felt.

According to a press release, many of the resort’s 17,000 cast members work in operations. This initiative aims to recycle 50,000 costume pieces annually.

Other recycling projects at Disneyland Paris include a collection of items using recycled tarp, and a replica of the Sleeping Beauty Castle made from recycled glass.

Meanwhile, Disneyland Paris has started building the final phase of the largest solar canopy plant in Europe, due to be finished at the end of 2023.

Upon completion, the solar canopy plant will produce 36 GWh/year, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of a town of 17,400 people.

Sustainability at Disneyland Paris

“As the top tourist destination in Europe, we have a responsibility to continue to operate and grow our business in a way that will allow us to deliver a positive environmental legacy for future generations,” said Natacha Rafalski, Disneyland Paris’ president.

“From our day-to-day operations to the implementation of new and ambitious projects – such as the installation of a solar canopy plant on our guest parking lot – we are more than ever adopting a deliberate approach to effectively mitigate our environmental footprint.”
