Now in its fourth year, the greenloop - sustainability in visitor attractions conference, will take place online on 30 April. Ilori will be joined by speakers from other leading operators including Disney, Therme Group, English Heritage and Red Sea Global.

Ilori is the group sustainability director at Merlin Entertainments, and is passionate about sustainability and the opportunities it presents for businesses in the 21st century. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment UK, and a chartered Energy Manager of the Energy Institute UK.

Last year, Ilori spoke at greenloop about the business case for being more environmentally friendly, highlighting how being more sustainable can help park operators save money while increasing trust with stakeholders and customers. He's previously spoken about how sustainability professionals should "get the Board onboard" with their plans.

Carbon neutral accommodation and edible straws

In spring 2024, Legoland will open the Woodland Village, Merlin’s first operationallycarbon-neutralaccommodation. This will be achieved through working with The Carbon Trust to create a carbon reduction strategy that will employ sustainable technologies and energy-efficient practices.

The LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort has started work on its £35 million pounds Woodland Village development which will feature 150 accommodation lodges in phase one, opening in spring 2024

Another recent sustainability initiative across the brand's park portfolio is the introduction of edible straws, to reduce plastic waste and encourage guests to make greener choices.
