Red Raion, the CGI studio specialized in media-based attractions, has revealed the popular concept behind its latest movie, available soon for licensing.
The firm’s latest title, Around the World in 80 Days – Journey of Wonders, is currently in production. The film is a fresh interpretation of French author Jules Verne‘s 1872 classic, a novel that has provided generations of inspiration for dreamers, with the exciting travelling adventure just as popular nearly a century and a half later.
Red Raion’s IP will take audiences on a grand steampunk-inspired adventure with explorer Phileas Fogg and Passepartout, his eccentric valet. The duo will follow a series of scattered clues in a bid to find the elusive Miss Auda, a fascinating explorer that is waiting for them in a mysterious location at the culmination of a frantic trip around the world.
The two travellers will create an immersive journey of exploration across the modern seven wonders of the world, including Rome’s Colosseum, the Great Wall of China and India’s Taj Mahal.
Adventures across stunning landcapes
Sara Menegazzi, Red Raion’s creative director says “Jules Verne’s masterpiece is such a famous IP that revisiting in a way that can still surprise and excite people is a challenging, yet rewarding process. We have been working hard to balance the frenetic rhythm of the trip with a deep sense of exploration and discovery, with a fun touch!
“Phileas Fogg and Passepartout – who in this revisitation will be a bright and quite goofy android – have to reach their destination frantically, but they will always find some time to feast their eyes on the spectacular architectural masterpieces that fill the beautiful world we live in.
“For the visuals, we are using warm colours and oniric atmospheres to reproduce the real, breathtaking environments our characters will visit.”
Red Raion’s business development manager Valeria Rizzo adds “We are very excited about this new title we are producing. Our clients have been asking us to produce a movie where people could see beautiful landscapes and incredible real environments.
“Our first licensed title of 2022 will be a deeply immersive experience for people of all ages who want to live a magical adventure to discover the most incredible beauties of our world, all without moving from their cinema seats.
Red Raion is producing two different versions of the new film, one for 5D cinemas and VR simulators, and the other for dome and flying theatres.
People who enjoy the former will travel the world using a variety of transportation devices including trains, cars, ships, and horses; audiences who will experience it in a dome cinema or flying theatre will travel in the classic Vernes-style hot-air balloon. Both films will be available for operators in 2022.
Rizzo continues “We chose to produce two versions of the movie, specifically thought to valorize our clients’ different types of media-based attractions: this way the experience will be more intense and immersive according to the hardware on which their guests will try it!”
Last month Red Raion announced a VR project for Loveland Living Planet, enhancing the aquarium’s towering outdoor art installation in Utah, US. The technology company has also announced partnerships with other businesses in the sector including Christie and Sim-Ex Iwerks.
