Moment Factory, the multimedia entertainment studio specialising in the conception and production of immersive environments, has collaborated with Wilderness at the Smokies to create a unique immersive multimedia attraction for Wild Water Dome, the biggest indoor water park in Tennessee.
Wilderness at the Smokies tasked Moment Factory to create an original, trend-setting experience that will appeal to both returning guests and newcomers. In response, the Studio developed the Kaleidoscope Kavern, a multi-sensory immersive multimedia tunnel which is a highlight of the water park’s 40,000-square-foot extension.
This project marks Moment Factory’s first venture into indoor water parks. The studio’s extensive work in themed attractions and experience adapting design practices for different industries guided the creative approach. Kaleidoscope Kavern showcases the potential of multimedia to innovate and enhance the visitor experience in these types of venues.
An immersive journey on a lazy river
Moment Factory worked on the project from concept to on-site integration. As part of the creation process, the Studio crafted a detailed 1:10 scale model of the attraction, including mirrors, water, projectors, lighting, and music. This allowed for testing and exploring ideas under real-world conditions.
Drifting along a lazy river, visitors enter the Kaleidoscope Kavern, where they are taken through nine captivating chapters inspired in part by the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. The experience unfolds as an interplay of dynamic lighting, spatialized sound, and video projections, which extend onto guests’ bodies, immersing them in the ever-evolving canvas and enriching the sensory experience.
In this unique audiovisual experience, colourful and hypnotic visuals merge with the reflective beauty of water and beautiful soundscapes, blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination.
Pete Tennis, managing director of Wilderness at the Smokies, says: “This is literally a one-of-a-kind lazy river that was created specifically for our resort. The lights and mesmerizing patterns are projected upon the tunnel’s walls, the tubes and even the guest’s bodies, and then when you combine it with the sounds of nature, it really makes this immersive experience an incredible odyssey. I can’t wait for everyone to experience it.”
Lyes Belhocine, producer of the theme parks unit at Moment Factory, comments: “We’re grateful to have collaborated with Wilderness At The Smokies on this audacious project. Provided a clean slate for creativity, we worked together to bring this one-of-a-kind vision to life. We were encouraged to craft an experience that’s immersive, amazing, and unforgettable.”
Earlier this year, Moment Factory revealed details of Flowing Forces, a project with Art Windsor-Essex (AWE) that transformed a gallery space using projection mapping, AI-assisted content, mobile-based interactivity, and reactive audio.
As it continues to push innovation in different industries, Moment Factory, in co-production and co-creation with Primo Entertainment, will unveil The Messi Experience on 25 April in Miami. This immersive and interactive multimedia experience is inspired by Lionel Messi’s life and career.
