Waza stories

Waza

WAZA stands for the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums.  It represents more than 400 zoos, aquariums, and other animal facilities. As an international alliance for zoos and aquariums, WAZA encourages member collaboration to accomplish standards for animal welfare, educational aims, and conservation.

With a rich history dating back to 1935, WAZA has been at the forefront of developing best practices in animal care, breeding programmes, and conservation activities. The association provides member institutions with a trusted platform to discuss global wildlife and habitat issues, share resources, and exchange information, fostering a sense of credibility and trust.

Some of its primary goals are promoting public awareness and education about conservation concerns, encouraging sustainable management of wildlife populations, and campaigning for biodiversity protection. Another important responsibility of WAZA is to establish moral standards for its members in conservation, research, and animal welfare.

Using its extensive worldwide network, WAZA enables collaborations with governmental bodies, conservation groups, and educational establishments to augment the influence of zoos and aquariums in conservation endeavours on a local and global scale.
