Paultons Park in Hampshire, England has set an opening date for its new Viking-themed land, Valgard – Realm of the Vikings.

The £12 million land will open on 16 May, with visitors able to explore an immersive world of Vikings.

Valgard is Paultons Park's largest investment to date and will feature the theme park's first roller coaster with inversions.

The new coaster, named Drakon, will be Paultons Park's most thrilling ride, with a vertical lift and two upside-down twists.

Additionally, Valgard will include Raven, a rebranded version of Paultons Park's Cobra coaster.

James Mancey, deputy managing director at Paultons Park, previously said Valgard will be "an immersive, atmospheric, and action-packed experience for families".

The land "has been specifically designed to grow with our fans", Mancey said.

On Drakon, he said the "introduction of inversions and a vertical lift hill" will "up the adrenaline levels at Paultons Park".

Valgard to open in May 2026

The park, he added, has not "forgotten about the little ones and there is something for all of the family in our new Viking village".

For example, another attraction in Valgard will be the Wild Swing by ART Engineering, an amusement ride manufacturer that develops roller coasters, dark rides, carousels, water rides and more.

Also, Valgard will feature a themed restaurant and a new playground for younger guests.

Leisure Expert Group, a leading experience design company, is designing and masterplanning the new Viking land.

Paultons Park will add another major thrill ride, confirmed to be a water experience, to Valgard in 2027.

"As an independent, family-owned theme park, we’re incredibly proud of the investments we make to deliver the very best guest experience," said Mancey.

Earlier this year, Paultons Park unveiled its new Scandinavian-inspired resort for overnight guests, its first on-site accommodation.
