The active lifestyle venue provides views and adrenaline-packed experiences

Sunkid, a leading provider of attractions for the whole family, has assisted a Swedish skiing resort to become a year-round destination with new installations.

Located in the centre of Stockholm, the Hammarbybacken SkiStar leisure and ski area serves the capital’s one million residents and is a recreational destination for international tourists.

The SkiStar Sports & Adventures concept has recently been revitalised by the Swedish leisure, tourism, real estate and retail company. It now allows visitors to enjoy an active lifestyle even in the summer season. The company made its most significant summer investment last year, launching the concept in Åre, Sälen, Stockholm and Trysil.

SkiStar Stockholm-Hammarbybacken gives locals and businesspeople of the capital three new attractions: a Climbing Park, a Mountain Coaster, and a Mountain Tube, within close proximity to the urban environment.

“On June 24, the attractions were officially opened, these allow [guests] to discover the mountain in Stockholm in different ways. Once at the top, there are then three different routes down: Straight down, A route with curves or one with a Tubby Tunnel, so variety and fun are guaranteed,” says a company representative for Sunkid.

Year-round experiences

To reach the new Sunkid Mountain Coaster, riders are brought to the top on their toboggan by a drag lift. The slow ascent offers visitors a unique view of the city skyline, a highlight of the experience. At the top, the drag lift anchor is swiftly released, leading to an adrenaline-filled half-kilometre-long descent.

Sunkid also provided two new Moving Carpet lifts, acting as feeders for the new tubing lifts at the bottom of the Mountain Coaster course. Provided by Sunkid’s partner Neveplast, the tubing tracks feature individually coloured tubes with a branded SkiStar logo, easily transported back to the start of the drop with the assistance of conveyor belts.

For late summer, more attractions are planned to open such as the Neveplast plastic track. Skiers will no longer need to wait till winter to go skiing, with the addition of a 9000m2 plastic slope on the mountain, a percentage of which will be fabricated from recycled plastics.

Sunkid recently announced Type N, a new conveyor belt product designed to be increasingly user-friendly, as well as easy to maintain and operate for venues.
