Hooghmoed: Efteling names new family attraction

Efteling in the Netherlands has announced a name for its new family attraction to open in summer 2026, with construction starting later this year.

The new free-fall ride is named Hooghmoed. It is located next to the Baron 1898 attraction, a Bolliger & Mabillard dive coaster, and will have the same theming as it.

The name Hooghmoed is inspired by Baron 1898, which follows the story of Baron Gustave Hooghmoed, who wants to extract as much gold as possible from the coaster’s mines with the help of riders.

In the storyline for the new Hooghmoed attraction, Efteling guests will become the Baron’s chimney sweeps.

Hooghmoed is suitable for guests who find Baron 1898 too intense or do not meet the minimum height requirement of 1.32 meters.

In addition to Hooghmoed, Efteling will enhance the area surrounding Baron 1898 to match its theming.

Koen Sanders, the theme park‘s director of product, market and image, said earlier this year: “This new family attraction seamlessly complements the area around Baron 1898.

“It is deliberately smaller in scale and as a result, adds to the capacity and attraction offer for a wider audience.

“Matching our area vision, the atmosphere and theme is similar to Baron 1898 to fully immerse our guests in the story of the baron and the wailing women.”

Meanwhile, Efteling is preparing to open the new Efteling Grand Hotel on 1 August.

Efteling’s first hotel to be located within the park itself will offer 140 rooms and suites with views of the Aquanura water show, the House of the Five Senses entrance, the Fairytale Forest, or the Pardoes Promenade.
