Maurer Rides, a leading designer and manufacturer of roller coasters and transport solutions, has thrilled its staff with an exclusive test ride on the Spike Fun prototype at Skyline Park, Germany.
The team was able to experience Maurer Rides’ brand-new product and capture their impressions as part of a special test run on the Spike Fun, the world’s first roller coaster featuring 45° backwards tilting seats. The test riders were able to try the new ride and take different seat positions during the ride, thanks to the seat’s innovative tilting design.
Innovative wheelie effect
All of the testers were delighted by Spike Fun’s adaptability and fresh riding experience. A particular highlight was the wheelie effect during acceleration – when travelling both forwards and backwards. During the wheelie, the seat tilts back unexpectedly during the launch and greatly enhances the feeling of acceleration.
The testers were also impressed by the jump over the Camelback. During the jump, the seat tilt adapts to the Camelback’s specific slope, ensuring that the seat remains horizontally aligned during the descent. As a result, the passenger feels as if they are jumping over the crest, and they can no longer see the rail.
The facility to interactively alter the seat position was heavily used by the testers. It makes every ride feel different, and there are no limitations to experimenting. The seat tilt adjustment can also be programmed, allowing passengers to enjoy a ride that has been carefully designed to enhance the ride experience.
Team experience provides crucial insights
The Skyline Park test run provided the first opportunity for Maurer Rides to investigate the potential of the Spike Fun prototype while immersing the team in a crucial learning experience. These insights will fuel the product’s continuing evolution and optimisation, ensuring that new features realise their full potential and provide an unsurpassed ride experience.
Maurer Rides recently revealed details of BOLT The Ultimate Sea Coaster. This attraction recreates a motorcycle-style experience on the upper deck of a luxury liner.
