Therme Group is developing a $350m wellness-based theme park in New York City, led by the High Line co-founder Robert Hammond.
Therme Group announced that Hammond is joining the company as president and chief strategy officer for Therme North America. He will lead the development of the Ā£350m wellness venue in NYC, Crainās reported (via New York Post).
The attraction is set to launch after 2025. Hammond told the publication that New Yorkers want places that are “a park and a botanical garden and a gathering place and programming”.
Much like the High Line, Therme “combines nature, community, wellbeing and art together in a similar way”, Hammond added. Therme’s NYC development will adapt the usual layout to a vertical format.
The project is still in the early stages of planning, with a location search yet to begin. Therme North America’s executive chairman John Alschuler said developers are looking to find a waterfront space.
In a press release, Therme said Hammond will be responsible for overseeing the company’s expansion into the US. His role is scheduled to begin in April 2022.
Therme’s expansion into US

Therme Group is targeting an initial group of major cities in the US as locations for its urban wellbeing resorts, featuring thermal bathing and meditation, water-based attractions, and immersive art.
“Access to nature and relaxation are the keys to mental wellbeing and physical health,” Hammond said.
“As someone who understands firsthand the healing power of nature and the importance of mindfulness, I believe everyone needs a place where they can comfortably and affordably reconnect with themselves, nature, and the environment around them.”
“My entire career I have been inspired by the power of innovative urban design, wellness, nature, art, and community building, and Therme is an exciting opportunity to bring these passions together in multiple cities across North America,” he added.
Earlier this year, Therme announced that it would be building its first North American project at Torontoās Ontario PlaceĀ in Canada, investing C$350 million in the wellbeing resort.
