Martin Aquatic, a world-class aquatic firm, has announced that its Blue Mar Basins technology has been granted a US Patent.
Concurrently, the company has launched a new testing facility for water feature innovations, the Martin Aquatic Test Bay, in Orlando, Florida.
This amenity allows the company's engineering team to replicate real-world conditions while testing concepts like the now-patented Blue Mar Basins system for treating multi-acre swimming facilities.
Josh Martin, president and creative director of Martin Aquatic, says: "After working through the basis of design for Blue Mar Basins over several years, we are incredibly excited about receiving a patent from the USPTO."
Enhancing experimentation and invention
Filed in May 2022, the application “Systems and Methods for Automated Sampling, Testing and Treating Large Water Basins” was granted as patent #12,441,628 and safeguards innovations embedded in the Blue Mar Basins technology itself. This patent, and the underlying technology, reflect years of research and innovation led by Martin Aquatic's engineering team.
The largest installation of this technology opened in July at Carnival Cruise Line’s private destination, Celebration Key, which features two 3.5-acre basins.
"By building our own facility, we will have direct access to test out new ideas and accelerate the development of more aquatic engineering innovations at an even faster pace," says Martin. "This could lead to further inventions and perhaps additional patents for our firm."
At the Martin Aquatic Test Bay, the team behind Blue Mar Basins has constructed a 24-foot square test pool using Myrtha’s Stainless Steel panel construction.
The water treatment system employs the company’s Blue Mar Products, including its automated control systems for monitoring and treating water chemistry. Another new Martin Aquatic innovation within the pool, the Blue Mar Nova light, was installed to illuminate the water and showcase the brightness and colour range of the lights.
Along with pool engineering technologies, the facility will also serve Martin Aquatic's water feature division, enabling designers to experiment with different fountain nozzles and spraying jets for various aesthetic settings.
Diego Cordova, technical director at Martin Aquatic, says: "We’ve helped clients select the right spraying effect for different choreographed fountain shows using simulated animations, but when you watch it in person, it’s that much easier to reconcile what they’re seeing with their original vision."
Just five miles from Martin Aquatic’s downtown Orlando office, the Test Bay is open for client visits. This provides an opportunity to view a working model of the Blue Mar Basins system on a small scale, as well as to test water feature mock-ups.
Last month, Martin Aquatic revealed the submersible light series, Blue Mar Nova, alongside the launch of Blue Mar Basins. Created to illuminate large underwater spaces, the Blue Mar Nova is proven to outperform some of the brightest lights on the market.
