4elements, the Montreal-based multimedia design studio, and Raven Sun Creative, the transformational experience firm, are celebrating the opening of Destination: Space at the Cosmodôme in Laval, Canada. This innovative exhibition transforms how audiences of every age engage with the universe.
Crafted as a scientific and sensory journey, the exhibition allows attendees to perceive space from the perspectives of an engineer, astrophysicist, or astrobiologist. It merges advanced technology, engaging experiences, and interactive content, transporting visitors to the heart of space exploration in an unprecedented way.
Founded in 1994 in Laval, the Cosmodôme is Canada’s only institution dedicated to making space sciences accessible. It welcomes over 150,000 visitors annually, including families, students, and astronomy enthusiasts. This latest project is a creative partnership with Raven Sun Creative, designer Louis Alfieri, and the Montreal-based firm 4elements, expanding the boundaries of immersive museum learning.
“This project is much more than an upgrade; it is a complete transformation of what a space museum can be,” says Alfieri, executive producer and creative director at Raven Sun Creative.
Valérie St-Jean, CEO of 4elements, adds: “We have designed an experience that captures the attention of today’s audience, making scientific learning captivating, inspiring, and deeply human.”
A personalised experience
Central to this immersive experience, visitors can explore fascinating artefacts such as a genuine lunar rock, an Apollo spacesuit, a prototype of the Artemis Jr. rover, and even an animatronic rover. A massive 19 x 48-foot screen, framed by hand-painted planets, immerses them in a spectacular cosmic atmosphere.
Visitors can earn badges and take home a personalised keepsake through nine interactive challenges.
The high-tech installation includes real-time simulations powered by a cutting-edge game engine for interactive storytelling that places visitors at the heart of space missions. The AI-driven personalised content allows for a unique experience with every visit, and experts in scenography and media crafted the immersive visual design.
The highlight of the launch was an exclusive conference by astronaut David Saint-Jacques of the Canadian Space Agency. Students had the unique chance to engage directly with this space hero, fuelling their scientific curiosity and inspiring big dreams.
“With Destination: Space, we offer an adventure that is both fun, educational, and inspiring. It sparks the imagination and reignites public interest in space sciences,” says Ian Galipeau, president of the Cosmodôme.
Stéphanie Girard-Beaudry, executive director, adds: “The exhibition builds on the legacy of space exploration to better guide our vision of the future. It highlights how accumulated knowledge is now being used to push the boundaries of what is possible.”
