ACCIONA Living & Culture, a leading creator of technology-driven interactive museums, exhibits, and events, has released The Ultimate Museum Book. This brings together findings from research conducted at over 150 institutions worldwide to share sustainability best practices.
The publication highlights 33 initiatives that are proven to bring a positive social or environmental impact, from carbon footprint reduction to adopting inclusive and responsible practices for the community.
Actionable, inspiring insights
The Ultimate Museum Book is a practical guide for new and established organisations looking to integrate sustainability into their day-to-day activities. Each initiative is explored through fact sheets with key data and real-life examples from museums. In addition, the book invites museum professionals to reflect and take action by underlining the key role that museums play in developing a society that is rooted in sustainability.
The museums involved include prestigious public and private institutions, ranging from the Panama Biomuseum and the Grand Egyptian Museum, to Tate Modern and the Ghent Design Museum. This variety shows that any museum can commit to embedding sustainability into its activities.
Initiatives explored in the book include the use of recycled, innovative, organic or low-emission building materials; water footprint reduction; circularity measures; nature-based solutions, such as renaturalisation, green roofs or biodiversity islands; and sustainability-focused design, including the use of natural resources for lighting and air conditioning.
Case studies also cover accessibility and inclusion; collaboration with local communities; reporting and measurement, and more.
The Ultimate Museum Book is now on sale and is available in specialist bookshops worldwide and online through platforms such as Amazon and La Fábrica.
The publication was launched on 23 April, World Book Day, as part of the NEXT IN Summit in Madrid.
ACCIONA Living & Culture held the second edition of the global NEXT IN Summit on 23 and 24 April 2025. The event gathered over 300 professionals from the sector, including museum managers, architects, artists, and multidisciplinary experts.
