Walt Disney World has announced a closing date for Muppet*Vision 3D in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to make room for the new Monsters, Inc. land.
As revealed at last year’s D23 fan event, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting a new land inspired by Pixar franchise Monsters, Inc.
The land, which is being added to the park’s south side, will house Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster. In a new blog post, Disney described the ride as “the coaster we’ve all dreamed of – a suspended ride recreating the door vault scene” from the film.
The upcoming land will also feature retail and dining outlets, and a new theatre show.
“The power of friendship and laughter is at the heart of so many Disney stories – especially Monsters, Inc.,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s theme parks and experiences division, at D23.
“Now we’re giving fans a whole new way to experience this world in a Disney theme park and connect with the characters they love.”
Disney has now confirmed that the park’s Grand Avenue will being a phased closing in May. The last day to eat at Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano is 10 May. After that, Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close on 7 June.
Fortunately for fans of the Muppets, Kermit, Miss Piggy and more of their friends will be moving to Sunset Boulevard where they will be taking over the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which currently has an Aerosmith theme.

In the reimagined ride, the Muppets will be teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a festival.
“We know so many of you share our love for the Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster,” Disney said.
“Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature the Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard.”
