Join us at 12 pm GMT on Wednesday, 21 January for our Innovation in retail and dining session at the Festival of Innovation.

Our guest speakers will be James Dwyer, principal at Lumsden; Anne-Marie Hoogerwerf Hospes, head of commercial activities at Natural History Museum Denmark; and Karl Durrant, SVP and general manager, global retail experiences at Warner Bros. Discovery.


They will explore why retail and dining spaces are becoming vital for visitor attractions, how they can reinforce an attraction's core narrative, sustainability, and more.

The Festival of Innovation will be held online from 21 to 22 January 2026 and celebrates the creative ideas, products, and organisations advancing the attractions sector.

Meet the speakers

James Dwyer is principal of Lumsden, a studio renowned for its retail and restaurant interiors at many of the planet's most iconic cultural and entertainment destinations.

Dwyer's extensive experience spans retail, hospitality, themed environments, and exhibition design, and includes projects for Warner Bros. Studio Tour London and Tokyo, the flagship Harry Potter stores in Chicago and Harajuku, Netflix House, MoMA, the British Museum, M+ Hong Kong, The National Gallery, and the Royal National Theatre.

His work intertwines storytelling, creative product curation, and immersive design, resulting in shopping and dining experiences that engage audiences and provide lasting commercial success.

Anne-Marie Hoogerwerf Hospes, Natural History Museum of Denmark Anne-Marie Hoogerwerf Hospes

As head of commercial activities at the Natural History Museum of Denmark, Anne-Marie Hoogerwerf Hospes is responsible for the overall visitor experience and the museum’s commercial operations, including ticketing, retail, events, and F&B.

Her role also includes planning visitor spaces outside the exhibitions in the new museum building, which is set to open in 2027. The new building, which is one of the country's most significant museum construction projects in recent history, will bring together Denmark’s natural history for the first time.

Hoogerwerf Hospes aims to combine operational leadership with strategic planning to create sustainable growth for cultural institutions. Her experience includes roles at ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art in Denmark and the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam/the Netherlands, McKinsey & Company, and Clifford Chance.

Karl Durrant is senior vice president and general manager of global retail experiences at Warner Bros. Discovery.

He joined Warner Bros. in 2019 and has led the development and launch of Harry Potter flagship shops in New York, Chicago, and Harajuku, HarryPottershop.com, and the opening of retail at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo. Durrant also oversees existing shops at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London and Harry Potter Kings Cross.

Durrant has developed shops that delight fans while remaining commercial. They deliver a magical experience through detailed theming and by stocking the finest Harry Potter merchandise, including ranges unique to each location.

With a career spanning over two decades, Durrant has served at leading retail businesses including Nike, Alshaya, and Arcadia.
