SSA Group, a best-in-class provider of integrated guest services, has announced the release of its Q1 industry report: The Future of Cultural Attractions: Attendance Trends & Guest Behavior.

The publication, now available to download, dives into the key factors shaping attendance at cultural attractions, including national benchmarks and insights from across SSA’s family of collaborations.

Value is measured in confidence

"Attendance across cultural attractions has softened, even as consumer spending on travel and leisure remains strong," says the company.

"That disconnect is worth paying attention to. It points to a shift in how guests are evaluating, prioritizing, and committing to experiences."

While museums, zoos, aquariums, and other cultural organisations remain valued, SSA explains that the decision environment has changed.

Families are choosing destinations more carefully, have higher expectations, and face more options competing for their limited free time.

National research and SSA’s family of over 90 partner attractions identify one overarching theme: confidence is the key measure of value today.

When expectations are well defined, planning becomes easier, visits go smoothly, and cultural attractions perform better, leading to longer stays and higher repeat visitation.

"Hospitality plays a defining role in this environment," says SSA. "It shapes how confident guests feel before they arrive, how supported they feel on site, and whether the experience feels worth choosing again.

"Hospitality is not a single moment. It’s the cumulative experience across the full guest journey."

Tera Greenwood, SSA Group's executive vice president of brand and relationships, spoke in the Reimagining guest experiences through innovation, design, and storytelling session at the blooloop Festival of Innovation. The session is available to watch on demand until 26 February.

Recently, SSA assumed responsibility for managing admissions at Honolulu Zoo in Hawaii. Here, it has implemented the zoo's first state-of-the-art digital ticketing system, making it easier for visitors to buy tickets in advance and providing a smoother arrival experience.
