Kinetic dance floors capture energy produced by visitors’ movements

Legoland New York has teamed up with Dutch company Energy Floors to introduce an interactive and eco-friendly installation.

The park’s Minifigure Skyflyer attraction features new kinetic dance floors that capture energy produced by visitors’ movements and convert it into usable power.

The installation includes two floors made up of 10 kinetic tiles each. Each floor is equipped with advanced control units and data visualisations, allowing guests to see how their dancing and jumping generates energy.

It is part of the Minifigure Skyflyer queue experience, which features disco music.

“This collaboration exemplifies how interactive elements can enhance the visitor experience while promoting sustainability,” said Michel Smit at Energy Floors.

“Our customizable kinetic tiles can adapt to any theme, making it easy to integrate them into diverse environments.

“As guests engage with our kinetic dance floors, they contribute to renewable energy generation, turning waiting periods into fun, educational experiences. We can’t wait to see how families embrace the concept of sustainability in such a memorable way.”

Per a press release, Energy Floors’ kinetic tiles are suitable for various attractions and entertainment experiences, from theme parks to shopping malls.

Eco-friendly installation at Legoland

Minifigure Skyflyer opened at Legoland New York in June 2024. Riders travel across the park in gondola-style “party pods”.

Later this year, Legoland New York will launch the first Duplo Peppa Pig Playground in North America.

Operated by Merlin Entertainments, Legoland New York is home to seven themed lands offering rides and attractions like the Dragon Coaster, a Lego Ninjago ride, and the Lego Factory Adventure Ride.
