The Elumenati, a designer of innovative solutions for immersive and interactive experiences, has announced the launch of a new product, The Compass, building on its extensive design expertise. The Compass is the latest addition to the line of Elumenati GeoDome turnkey solutions – domes, panoramas and globes for experiential installations.
With a 1.2 metre or 1.5 metre-diameter hemisphere, The Compass features internal projection with OmniFocus fisheye at 4k resolution and 4.5 megapixels across the screen. At 8,000 or 10,000 lumens, it is bright enough for spaces with some degree of ambient light.
Content is driven by an Elumenati image-generating computer and the WorldViewer CMS. Output can also come from other creative applications like TouchDesigner or datasets created for NOAA’s Science on a Sphere. Both the image and audio are integrated into an elegant frame for a small footprint and easy installation.
Experiential installations made easy
The new product boasts simple multimedia integration with a 360° or wide-angle video, and content can be rendered or live-streamed. It can also support interactives for a more hands-on installation.
For users, the benefits include the fact that no render time is required, meaning that it is easy to keep experiences fresh with new content, tailor experiences to diverse audiences, and provide live information updates. It is also straightforward to create and refresh a branded, button-based user interface.
WorldViewer enables several user experience modes, including ambient for looping video and images, touch-driven with a tablet interface, or gesture-driven in customised installations, with integration support from the Elumenati development team.
The applications are wide-ranging, from art installations and scenic elements in location-based entertainment settings to digital signage and wayfinding or lobby displays and meeting spaces for hospitality and enterprise. It can also be used for exhibitions in museums, zoos, and aquariums.
In addition, it can offer a way to tour different locations with 360° videos. For instance, in the hospitality sector, it can allow guests to visit other properties or area attractions. Or, when it comes to education, audiences can explore from both the global view and a feet-on-the-ground perspective
The Compass in action
As part of an immersive installation created by DomeGuys International and Minds Over Matter for Earth Edition, A Festival of Eco-Consciousness, audiences gathered around a 1.5 m-diameter Compass inside a geodesic dome.
This application of The Compass combined an image-generating computer with an OmniFocus 4K projection system with 10,000 lumens into a single unit mounted on the wall. With WorldViewer, the MoM team could easily import material they had developed using TouchDesigner.
Last year, as The Elumenati celebrated 20 years in the business, members of the team spoke to blooloop to chart the company’s evolution, highlight standout projects, and signpost the future.
