Ahead of Christmas, Dutch fairytale theme park Efteling has unveiled some its plans for next year.
In 2024, Efteling is opening the new Danse Macabre attraction, increasing its sustainability initiatives, and building a new hotel.
Named after the tone poem by Camille Saint-Saëns, Danse Macabre is to launch in autumn 2024. It will be an immersive attraction featuring a unique ride system. It is part of a new spooky area at Efteling.
Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides, has worked alongside Efteling to create the new ride system.
As for Efteling’s new sustainability initiatives, the theme park has been working on its own sustainable energy system to heat and cool buildings in the Anderrijk area using thermal energy storage.
Connected to the installation will be the Efteling Theatre, the Fata Morgana dark ride and event venue, the Efteling Grand Hotel, the Frau Boltes KĂĽche restaurant, and the Fabula and Danse Macabre attractions.
Per a press release, Efteling will continue building the Efteling Grand Hotel next year. The first hotel located within the park is due to open in 2025.
Efteling’s largest hotel will offer 143 rooms across seven floors. There will also be two restaurants and two gift shops, as well as a swimming pool and spa area.

Additionally, Efteling is launching a partnership with Dutch foundation Stichting Leergeld this month to donate 80,000 tickets a year to disadvantaged families in the Netherlands.
The park is also adding a new themed suite to the Efteling Hotel. The ‘Droomvlucht’ suite opens on 22 December and is inspired by Efteling’s Droomvlucht ride.
Opened in 1952, Efteling has grown to become one of Europe’s top theme parks. In 2022, the park welcomed 5.43 million visitors – the highest number of guests in its 70-year history.
