Severn Lamb, a leader in the manufacture and supply of leisure, resort and amusement transport, has secured the contract to construct a new train for the iconic Southend-on-Sea pier in the UK.
Severn Lamb is proud to announce its success in securing the contract to update the much-loved Southend-on-Sea pier train, after several months of tendering. The project will bring the passenger train up to date for 21st century visitors. The company is set to begin construction this year, with the current train being replaced at the start of 2021.
The current train, also commissioned by Severn Lamb, is a visitor favourite and has been going strong since 1986 when it was opened by HRH Princess Anne. The two diesel locomotives have been carrying visitors and locals alike in a reliable fashion for over 33 years.
Going green
The update will be an eco-friendly one, as the new trains will be fully electric and will produce zero emissions. In addition to this, they will also be able to run with half the carriages during off-peak times, resulting in savings for the local council when it comes to running costs and timetable flexibility.
The train design will also be updated, to add to the viewing experience. New features will include large panoramic windows, a modern/contemporary design and lighting upgrades. The Severn Lamb team is looking forward to working on such an iconic attraction once again and promises a very special custom design.
Severn Lamb will also be heading to several trade shows in 2020, including the Saudi Entertainment and Amusement Expo on 3 – 5 February and the China Attractions Expo on 21- 23 March.
The company enjoyed a successful year of sales in Europe and North America for 2019 and announced three new UK commissions to finish off the year, with projects at Colchester Zoo, Marwell Zoo and the National Railway Museum.
